remainder of geneva pictures

These pictures are a compilation of two days in Geneva. My mother and I went in one day to stop by the Reformation wall and take a boat tour around Lac Leman/Lake Geneva. We finished the day with a  glass of rose at Hotel Kempinski, which overlooks the banks of Lac Leman. That hotel has such a neat pool area--very modern and unusual with the cabanas.

The other day I spent with JB. It was his first time in Geneva, so we went back to the Jetty for lunch, then on to St. Peter's Cathedral. Several people had recommended that we climb to the top of the cathedral to enjoy the views of Geneva. I usually don't love doing the touristy things (although I always end up doing them), so we debated whether or not it was really worth it. And it was...the views were gorgeous and the Jet D'eau looked so grand from our perspective.

geneva, day 2

On my second day in Switzerland, my dad and I took the train in from Satigny to Geneva. It's a short train ride, about 10-20 minutes, and it throws you out right in the middle of Geneva. Maybe more like, middle-ish.

Geneva is at the tail end of a summer time festival (not sure what festival, exactly), so the banks of Lac Leman were stuffed to the brim with carnival rides, booths, bright colors and all sorts of oddities. It was a bit crammed...and honestly, a bit too colorful for austere Geneva. My dad and I sidestepped that activity when we got off the train and headed across the lake into old town Geneva. We stopped into the Patek Philippe store, and then kept wandering about the large shopping avenue, Rue du Rhone.

After shopping, we crossed back over the bridge and worked our way along the banks to the Jetty. It's a slab of concrete with rocks jutting out into Lac Leman with areas to lay out and swim. We ordered deux plats du jour, and enjoyed a swiss version of indian cuisine with tandoori chicken and mango chutney. Then we took a water taxi back across Lac Leman and returned to old town Geneva. We passed through Maison Tavel, the oldest remaining home in Geneva, and listened to the glockenspiel at St. Pierre's Cathedral. To top off our swiss day, we dined on raclette and fondue and red wines from the swiss countryside. It was wonderful.
